The Fresh Green Leaves

 

     The fresh green leaves of Spring once more declare

To wintered hearts that all life’s bitter woes

Are transient; that warmer tomorrows

     Will come to melt iced hopes snowed under care.

 

     Blossoms in tree and bush, flowers in field

And hedgerow, are bright promises, renewed,

Of future certain happiness imbued

     With healing therapies for minds grief-galled.

 

     The sap which now regenerates grass, tree

And every living plant acts like the blood

Which throbs through human veins; it brings a flood

     Of vigour and a flush of ecstasy!.

 

So banish dark despair, like Winter’s passing cold

And, with the fresh green leaves of Spring, in hope be bold!.
